Sub clinical mastitis-Peter HowardThe causes of subclinical mastitis in Golden Bay are summarised and graphed using practice laboratory data from the RSC vet clinic. The effect of subclinical infection on bulk milk cell count is shown and the production and associated financial loss is quantified. The different bacteria involved and their different outcomes in terms of rate of spread and the prognosis for cure is explored with particular reference to Staph aureus infection. Strategies for control are also looked at.
