Your Friendly Not-For-Profit Local Store
The Rural Service Centre is an incorporated not-for-profit society which means that we can offer the local community with farming and lifestyle supplies at very reasonable prices.
We were originally set up as a Vet Club which was funded by local farmers to provide much needed Vetinerary assistance in Golden Bay rather than relying on expensive vets from Nelson. We have since expanded into animal feeds, milking equipment, animal care, agricultural chemicals, fertilisers, clothing and garden supplies. If you are new to the Bay come and have a look, you may be surprised at the range of items we stock!
Meet The Team
I was born and bred in the Bay and grew up on a mixed dairy, sheep and beef farm. My agricultural career has included leasing farms and working as a tutor for Primary ITO. I worked as a Technical Sales Representative for 11 years at the Rural Service Centre before taking on the role of General Manager in February 2022.
I enjoy fishing, golf and spending time with my grown up sons and our grandchildren. In our spare time my wife Joyce and I like to travel the country in our motorhome.
I am a Takaka local, born and raised on our dairy farm just out of town. After school I went to Lincoln University and completed a BSc majoring in Animal Science. Since then (quite a while ago!) I have worked with Ravensdown on environmental planning work and spent two years farming abroad in Canada and the UK. I returned to farm in the bay for seven seasons on a property I am now an equity partner in. Recently I spent two years at DairyNZ in Canterbury as a Consulting Officer with a focus on responding to environmental regulation change and staff progression.
I have been with the RSC since April 2022 and enjoy staying connected with all our farming members and helping them out wherever I can. After work I can be found keeping my hand in with farming on my partners small block, anything outdoorsy, mountain biking, diving and playing golf badly.
My wife and I moved to Golden Bay from Nelson in 2016. I drove a courier and post van from Nelson to Takaka and Collingwood every day and fell in love with the place and the people. Previously we both spent close to ten years working at Waimea nurseries where I specialised in machinery operation, fencing, irrigation and spraying.
We own our own piece of paradise close to Puponga, where we spend most of our time gardening and caring for our pet chickens and rabbit. We also love to take our dog Molly for walks on the beautiful beach which is just on our doorstep.
